Sarophia Reviews

Kapiti News Article, 22 June 2005

As a huge fantasy fan (especially Feist), I highly recommend Sarophia. If enough of us hassle him, he might speed up the next book...

With Sarophia, Stu Dunn has created a magical world of adventure and fantasy. Nightmare creatures from the darkest part of the subconscious mingle with characters as recognisable and human as the people in your street ~ the ability to blend the real and the impossible, the mysterious and plain that makes fantasy writing so rewarding ~ and this book is no exception.

Stu's heroes face a world in the grip of an unspeakable evil. What begins as a flight for life by a group of frightened youths develops into a quest for understanding and vengeance. Nothing is certain, allies are scarce and time is running out.

Sarophia will keep you on the edge of your seat; as each crises is conquered, only to reveal a greater danger beyond, the pages seem to turn themselves toward the next chapter

Great story! the descriptions are excellent and portray your story perfectly. Well written.

Stu Dunn has accomplished something that is very rare in this new breed of authors. He has written a book that grips your curiosity from the first page, and then leads you on a merry chase, page after page, leaving behind a shivering mess of anticipation that was formerly a human reader. The roller coaster ride of emotions that are brought to life, by this author, have had me laughing, crying, cheering, and at one point, actually trying to imitate an expression of one of his characters, Jelik. Be warned though, this book also has a dangerous appeal for teenage, and pre-teen boys, whose imaginations cast themselves as swashbuckling heroes, fighting the forces of evil with mystic powers, cunning tactics, astounding weapon skills and heroic stamina.

If you have a son (or two), get yourself an extra copy.

Great for full on fantasy fans, or if you’re new to the genre

My fave authors are…Feist, newby Stu Dunn, King, Tolkien (pre-LOTR)

Thought I'd take a break from reading to place feedback. Fantastic read so far....

I started reading it (the book) straightaway...it's great. Good job Stu!!

Dear Stu,
Greetings, thank you so much, your writing is great. Keep it up.
Wishing you the VERY BEST. Kindest thoughts and regards,
Clarrie
You and Robert Harris (author of Pompeii) are friends.

Bloody good read - I liked that I did not know who was going to survive the book and that the fights were bloody good!

Great to see a NZ fantasy writer on Amazon! Like the website too, I’m halfway through and can’t put the book down damn you – my housework is suffering ;-)

I think I’m married to Jaliesa *lol*

Thought it started out a little slow and cliched (I’ve read a looooot of fantasy books), but chapter 6 completely won me over – well done.

Saw your newpaper article – where can I buy your book?

So... I finished Sarophia a couple of days ago...I really liked the character Antaeus, but I've always had a liking to elves... To be brutally honest..? It was shorter than I expected ( but alot of authors spend 3 pages telling you how the " Breaking dawns sunlight glinted of the morning dew "... which refreshingly.. You kept to a bare minimum ) hahahaha..And by the ending i'm assuming theres a 'next' book..? (hopefully)...? The different powers gifted to the characters were great...s'pecially Jelik's.. That dudes the bomb.. hahahaha... All in all I enjoyed the book and really look forward to reading your next...

*The Best Book you Ever Read*

When I was at primary school... The Hobbit and Greek Mythology. At high school, Go Ask Alice. Then, anything by Feist, The Silmarillion by Tolkein, Sarophia by Stu Dunn, The Time Travellers Wife by Audrey Niffeneggar, The Harry Potter series, and more. All time classic though...X-Men comics!

My friend discovered Sarophia through searching for Salvatore books and sent me a portion of the ebook which got me hooked, he then bought me a copy from the author himself through that Auctionsite :D, sure it doesn’t need mentioning, before it hit the stores.

I am so glad that he did; as I love this book. You belong on my pedestal of fave authors and a kiwi at that! Look forward to your future books. Kudos to you Stu!

If you thought you'd read them all - you are wrong! ALL FANTASY READERS MUST READ THIS BOOK!

I am not kidding. I understand that book 2 (Panthorian) is coming out end of this year / early next - I will be counting down the days. Have a look at the sample stuff on http://www.sarophia.com

There are many subtle things happening in this book, and the author is obviously very clued up. I picked up a lot more on my 2nd and 3rd read...

Just take my word for it!
